About Us

Martin & Leeann Stern moved to Durong in September 2001, after moving from the NSW Central Coast. The property was set up for Boer Goats with appropriate fencing and paddocks. Since then the property has been improved, with the introduction of a permaculture system.

The homestead is 20 years old is made from local native Ironbark timber and recycled products. The inside is clad in Cyprus Pine. Extensions are underway.

Power is obtained from a 24V inverted to 2500W, 240V solar power system with an older 12V system for lighting. A generator is used for appliances that require higher wattage.

Water is from a gravity fed rain water system, water is pumped to a header tank and allowed to run back down to the house. Stock and Garden water is pumped from a huge dam and then gravity fed to where it is needed. The only outside utilities are the telephone line and satellite broadband.

Martin has a Graphic Design and Print Business, "Print & Beyond" which is run from home, with the printery being situated on the Sunshine Coast. Martin has got qualifications in Marketing and Graphic Reproduction and is looking to study Renewable Energy Systems.

Leeann has studied Permaculture and Architectural Drafting and is working part time for Queensland Health.

Leeann and Martin have three children, two are attending the local school and the eldest is at High School. Both Martin and Leeann are active members in the Durong community, involved with P&C, Rural Fire Brigade and Girl Guides.

Although originally from the city, they have adapted into rural life quite comfortably.
