The Buildings
Boondooma Homestead is a homely structure incorporating a combination of verticle and horizontal timbers. A sawing pit located to the North West was used in the construction of Boondooma Homestead. The present roof is corrugated iron over the original wooden shingles. Initial construction of this building dates back to the 1850's.
The Stone Store The Stone Store is constructed of roughly coursed random stone by German sonemason Wilhelm Brill, between 1855 and 1858. to supply local settlers. It originally had a shingle roof which was replaced by corrugated iron in the 1870's believed to be one of Australia's earliest structures built to metric measurements, it was used for safe storage of supplies and is an important relic from early European settlement.
The Post Office is thought to have been constructed in the 1860's with extentions added in the 1950's, This structure is still relatively intact down to the letter posting hole through the door.
The DPI Hut - In the 'Year of the Outback' 2002 the nearby Boondooma Dip was chosen to represent the DPI's long fight against the cattle tick, and an information hut was erected here. |
